Genny Mukes: A Beacon of Resilience and Leadership
“As African, Asian, and Indian American women of color in leadership, we bring unique perspectives, resilience, and determination to drive positive change within any organization,” shares Genny. Her journey at TeamWRX highlights the growing presence of black women in pivotal roles, underscoring a shift toward greater diversity and representation in leadership.
Genny’s leadership mantra is clear: “Show up Prepared, Professional, Transparent, and most: Effective.” This approach has not only shaped her career but also inspired her team to strive for excellence.
The Challenges and Triumphs of Being a Woman of Color in Leadership
Genny’s experience reflects a broader narrative shared by many women of color in leadership positions. “Being a Woman in Leadership, we must keep our feelings on mute and utilize the meaning of what we think to make it happen or be heard. Otherwise, we are called emotional,” Genny explains. This stigma often challenges women of color, who must navigate both racial and gender biases in their careers.
Despite these challenges, Genny’s resolve remains unwavering. “I am the only African American woman in leadership within my company. It has been challenging, but also rewarding as we develop and grow. Opportunities are available, and transparency is open,” she states.
Setting Standards and Creating Movements
Genny’s leadership is not just about overcoming obstacles; it’s about setting new standards and creating positive changes. “We set standards, we motivate, we expand resources, we teach, we acknowledge, we turn dimes into millions, and we create. We show up!” Genny’s enthusiasm is infectious, driving her team to achieve remarkable milestones.
Her daily affirmation is a testament to her impact: “EVERY TIME MY FEET HIT THE PAVEMENT ON THIS GREEN EARTH, GET NERVOUS BECAUSE I’M ABOUT TO CAUSE A MOVEMENT SOMEWHERE.”
